Cardiac charity re-launches its Healthy Heart Campaign this October

As the nights draw in, most of us are tempted to stay indoors, keep warm and indulge, putting healthy habits away for the winter. But it’s easy to neglect our health, which is why cardiac charity Heartbeat is teaming up with local employers to offer Healthy Heart checks for their staff, together with guidance on how people can avoid or reduce their risk of heart disease.

Heartbeat’s cardiac nurses (specialists from the University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust) and a Heartbeat representative will visit businesses to perform a series of health checks on employees. The nurses will also offer health advice and participants with concerns are advised to visit their GP. A follow-up visit can be booked between 8 months and one year later.

Heartbeat are also offering individuals who would like to get checked out the chance to attend their clinic sessions which will be advertised on their website too.

Healthy Heart checks take 10-15 minutes per person and can be crucial in helping detect possible heart problems, as well as supporting businesses in promoting healthy lifestyles.

Costs are highly competitive and can either be met wholly by employers, or shared with employees. Tests include a cholesterol/HDL check, blood pressure check, glucose test, BMI and atrial fibrillation test as well as a health talk. Also included is advice on smoking, exercise, nutrition and diet, and alcohol consumption.

To find out more, businesses and individuals can visit West Quay shopping centre on 12th October 2024, where they’ll be able to chat to Heartbeat’s specialist cardiac nurses.
