Cardiac charity relaunches its campaign to raise awareness

Cardiac charity Heartbeat has officially re-launched its 2025 Healthy Heart campaign in partnership with Peter Cooper Motor Group’s showrooms across the South.

This initiative aims to promote heart health in the workplace by partnering with local employers to offer comprehensive Healthy Heart checks for their staff. In addition to these health assessments, employees will receive expert advice and practical guidance on lifestyle changes to help prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease. By bringing heart health awareness directly into the workplace, Heartbeat hopes to encourage long-term well-being and proactive healthcare among employees.

Heartbeat relaunched its 2025 Healthy Heart campaign by providing cardiac health checks to all 290 employees across Peter Cooper Motor Group’s nine locations. The initiative began at the Shirley branch, with the first screenings conducted by Heartbeat’s specialist Healthy Heart Nurses, before continuing at the company’s Hedge End headquarters.

“Healthy Heart checks take just 10 to 15 minutes, a small moment in your day that could make a life-changing difference,” said Tanya Harder, Community Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Heartbeat. “These quick and simple checks can play a vital role in detecting potential heart issues early, while also empowering businesses to support their employees in leading healthier, heart-conscious lifestyles.”

Specialist cardiac nurses from University Hospital Southampton, accompanied by a Heartbeat representative, visit participating businesses to conduct a series of health checks for employees. In addition to performing the assessments, the nurses provide expert health advice, and any employees with concerns are encouraged to follow up with their GP.

Businesses also have the option to schedule a follow-up visit between eight months and a year later to monitor progress and reinforce heart health awareness.

Darren Cooper, Managing Director of Peter Cooper Group, emphasised the importance of heart health, saying, “Taking care of your heart is essential, yet it’s so easy to overlook. We are deeply committed to supporting our employees in leading healthier lives and ensuring they have access to vital health checks that could make a real difference.”

“That’s why we signed up to Heartbeat’s Healthy Heart checks. It’s so easy because they come to us, and we know we can rely on their expertise.”

Healthy Heart checks are a regular feature of Heartbeat’s calendar, and any organisation can sign up. Costs are highly competitive and can either be met wholly by employers or shared with employees. Tests include a cholesterol/HDL check, blood pressure check, glucose test, BMI and atrial fibrillation test as well as a health talk. Also included is advice on smoking, exercise, nutrition and diet, and alcohol consumption.

The charity is also offering individuals who would like to get checked out the chance to attend clinic sessions. To find out more and sign up for a Healthy Heart check, business and individuals can visit Heartbeat’s website.
