Leading law firm Churchers Solicitors is to sponsor cardiac charity Heartbeat’s first-ever ‘Beat the Heat’ quiz to take place on the Isle of Wight.

The inspiration came when Tamsin Verrinder, a conveyancer with Churchers Solicitors, met Tanya Harder, Heartbeat’s Community Fundraising and Marketing Manager, at a networking event. “We talked about the possibility of sponsoring the event and I put it to the partners of the firm, who were keen to go ahead,” said Tamsin.

“We’re delighted to be sponsors and very excited that our team will be taking part. Right now, we are looking for some smart people to fill the last three spaces on the team because of course, as legal professionals, we’re highly competitive!”

Tanya Harder said: “This marks our inaugural quiz on the island, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Churchers Solicitors for this event. Tamsin and her colleagues are avid quizzers, eager to boost awareness for Heartbeat and Rotary Heartbeat House. This outstanding home-away-from-home provides crucial support for cardiac patients and their families, particularly those from the Isle of Wight."

Living on the island can be isolating for anyone with health issues, especially given the high cost of transportation. Rotary Heartbeat House provides a safe, affordable haven at just £35 per night for anyone whose loved one is receiving care in the Cardiac Unit at the University Hospital Southampton.

“Less than a quarter of the relatives who stayed at Heartbeat House in 2023 were from the Isle of Wight,” said Tanya. “Heartbeat is now focusing on increasing awareness to ensure that more island residents know about this valuable resource.

“Beat the Heat promises to be a great night, with plenty of prizes – not just for first, second and third place but also for the best team name. We’ll be holding a raffle as well, to help us continue raising vital funds for Heartbeat House so we can carry on supporting families on the Isle of Wight in their time of need. Massive thanks go to Churchers Solicitors for their incredible support.”

Heartbeat’s Beat the Heat Quiz takes place on Thursday 6th March 2025 at Ryde Castle Hotel. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start and the entry fee is £20 per person (teams of up to six people). A curry supper is included in the ticket price.

Tickets can be purchased from Tanya Harder on 02380 706096 or tanya@heartbeat.org.uk.
